Study of rural facilities offers opportunities to refine, improve systems

The United States has a higher rate of maternal death compared to its economic peer nations, and as many as 80% of these deaths are deemed to be preventable, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (cdc.gov). There are many interrelated reasons for the high rates of maternal mortality and severe maternal morbidity, but commonly cited challenges include a lack of access to high-quality maternal care and systems-level issues.
