Digital twins: The key to manufacturing sustainability

The concept of digital twins has its roots in NASA’s Apollo program of the 1960s. Engineers created detailed simulators of spacecraft systems to diagnose and solve problems from earth. However, the term “digital twin” wasn’t coined until 2002 by Michael Grieves at the University of Michigan.
