Like many industries, healthcare has been struggling with increasing costs and decreasing revenues for some time. One response to such pressure is to seek to improve the efficiency of operations and the utilization of resources through consolidation, mergers and acquisitions. However, the resulting increase in the size, scope and complexity of healthcare organizations often has the unintended consequence of complicating the coordination of the elements within them.
