Industrial and systems engineers honored at #IISEAnnual2024 in Montreal
NORCROSS, Ga. – May 22, 2024 – It was a banner celebration for the highest achievers at the Institute of
Industrial and Systems Engineers’ Annual Conference & Expo May 18-21 in Montreal, Canada, including a rare triple win
by IISE Fellow Bopaya Bidanda.
The University of Pittsburgh professor and past IISE president was awarded the Frank & Lillian Gilbreth Industrial
Engineering Award as well as the IISE Joint Publishers Book of the Year award for Maynard’s Industrial and Systems
Engineering Handbook, 6th Edition. He also joined co-authors Zhaohui Geng and Arman Sabbaghi to earn an IISE
Transactions Best Application Paper award. Bidanda is a past recipient of the Albert G. Holzman Distinguished Educator
Award (2013).
The Gilbreth award, sponsored by The Wm. Michael Barnes ‘64 Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Texas
A&M University, is the highest and most esteemed honor bestowed by IISE.
“I am incredibly grateful for the honor of receiving multiple awards this year,” Bidanda told ISE magazine. … “IISE
has provided me with a range of opportunities to serve the profession, fellowship during my service, and now be
recognized by my peers with the highest honors in the discipline.”
Other key awards included the Captains of Industry to Ann Dunkin of the U.S. Dept. of Energy and David Poirier of The
Poirier Group; Albert G. Holzman Distinguished Educator Award to Sunderesh S. Heragu of Oklahoma State University;
David F. Baker Distinguished Research Award to Yuehwern Yih of Purdue University; along with 19 new IISE Fellows:
