Award-winning engineering podcast adds new video interview segment ExpertISE
NORCROSS, Ga. – May 14, 2024 – The Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers has added to its Problem
Solved: The IISE Podcast lineup by featuring a new series of video episodes called ExpertISE.
The brief episodes feature voices of experience from the field of industrial and systems engineering to answer
questions about professional work, careers, academia and other sectors. In each, the expert chosen answers a specific
question concerning an industrial and systems engineering issue or problem.
The premiere episode featured Barrett Caldwell, a professor of industrial engineering and aeronautics and astronautics
at Purdue University and an IISE Fellow. Dr. Caldwell gives his thoughts on the following question: “How have
international collaborations or perspectives influenced or enriched your ISE projects?” Other episodes feature ISE
experts Amanda Mewborn, James Swisher, Elizabeth Gentry, Tina Agustiady and Javier Masini.
“We’ve had great success with the interviews produced for Problem Solved, but we also had to recognize the behaviors
of our audience,” said David Brandt, IISE’s digital marketing and communications manager. “Most podcast audiences
don’t listen to an entire episode, and that’s largely because our tech culture is made up of constant distractions.
“ExpertISE has highly valuable content that can be consumed in short bursts, and over time we’ll have built a dynamic
collection of wisdom from experienced voices from the profession.”
Problem Solved recently earned an Azbees Southeast Regional Gold Award for Online-Podcast from the American Society of
Business Publication Editors. The winning episode “Generative AI and ISEs: What’s now? What’s next?” was published
December 2023.
The awards recognize outstanding work by business, trade, association and professional publications across 61 print
and online categories.
Since its debut in 2019, Problem Solved episodes have resulted in more than 60,000 downloads in more than 120
countries. Episodes are available at podcast.iise.org and the IISE YouTube channel youtube.com/iisechannel.
