Industrial and systems engineers head to New Orleans for major international conference
NORCROSS, Ga. – May 9, 2023 – Industrial and systems engineers travel to New Orleans, Louisiana, May 20-23 for
the premier IISE Annual Conference & Expo at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans. Attendees will celebrate the profession
and share innovative practices and solutions while toasting the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers' 75th
Anniversary.
The conference includes a power-packed program, society and division townhall meetings, an exhibit hall and plenty of
opportunities to meet and greet fellow attendees. IISE honors will be given to the top achievers in the profession,
including the Frank & Lillian Gilbreth Industrial Engineering Award, the IISE Cup and more.
Keynote speakers include Rick Echevarria, vice president and general manager of security sales for Intel Corp.;
Cassandra Sotos, an industrial engineering graduate, co-owner and CEO of AmpRx and an internationally recognized
violinist and recording artist; and Jionghua (Judy) Jin, a professor in the Department of Industrial and Operations
Engineering and director of the manufacturing program at the University of Michigan.
The Annual Conference offers ISE students a chance to further their knowledge and make some of their first
professional connections that can pay off after graduation.
"It's really nice to see that the younger people are getting involved because this is one place that they can build
their connection networks and they will be able to use those networking connections in the future," said Hamid
Parsaei, professor of industrial & systems engineering at Texas A&M University, winner of the 2022 Albert G. Holzman
Distinguished Educator Award. "The profession is changing almost every year, so you will see some of the younger
people come in working in different (areas) such as application of artificial intelligence or data science."
The conference also features community volunteer projects. The IISE's Sustainable Development Division will lead the
Annual Conference Service Project by assisting SBP, a New Orleans-based organization involved with disaster
recovery, on Saturday, May 20. The "Introduce a Girl to Industrial and Systems Engineering event" will also take
place May 20 at the Hyatt Regency, led by IISE and the Girl Scouts of Louisiana Pines of the Gulf and Louisiana
East.
