Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers elects new officers
NORCROSS, Ga. – Jan. 28, 2021 – Don Greene, chief executive officer of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE), announced election results for the association’s new officers.
Four seats were filled on the 14-person board of trustees: Amanda Mewborn, M.S., RN, as president-elect; Janis Terpenny, Ph.D., as senior vice president, academic; Young-Jun Son, Ph.D., as senior vice president, continuing education; and Jennifer Cross, Ph.D., as senior vice president, North American Operations Board.
Mewborn, vice president of Facility Planning & Development at Atrium Health Navicent, Atlanta, is a senior IISE member who has served in several leadership roles, including IISE board member and past president of the Society for Health Systems, one of three IISE societies.
Before the election, Mewborn stated that “the paradigm for professional associations has shifted and holistic transformation is required. IISE must provide value via new mechanisms.” To advance the Institute and the profession, Mewborn plans to draw on her vast experience and “unique perspective critical in the evolution of our profession and IISE.”
IISE Fellow Terpenny is the Dean and Wayne T. Davis Dean’s Chair at Tickle College of Engineering, The University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
IISE Fellow Son is professor and department head of Systems and Industrial Engineering at The University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona.
Cross is associate professor of Industrial, Manufacturing and Systems Engineering at Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas.
Vice presidents for the technical operations board and the regional operations board also were elected.
The vice presidents of technical operations chosen are Fazleena Badurdeen, Ph.D. and Isaac Mitchell, FACHE, CPHQ, PMP, LSSBB, DSHS. Badurdeen is a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and director of Graduate Studies, Manufacturing Systems Engineering at the University of Kentucky, Lexington. Mitchell is the director of Operations for the Continuum Healthcare Group, Knoxville, Tennessee.
The new regional vice presidents are Emmett Hull, U.S. South Central and Joel Brock, U.S. North Central.
New officers are elected by IISE professional members and serve three-year terms beginning April 1.
