Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers elects new officers

NORCROSS, Ga. – Jan. 27, 2020 – Leaders for 2020 have been chosen in the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) annual election. IISE CEO Don Greene announced the results.

Three seats were filled on the 14-person board of trustees: Bopaya Bidanda, Ph.D., as president-elect; Ronald Askin, Ph.D., as senior vice president, publications; and Rohan Shirwaiker, Ph.D., as senior vice president, technical operations.

Bidanda is a professor and department chair in the Department of Industrial Engineering, and director of the Manufacturing Assistance Center and Center for Industry Studies at the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

IISE Fellow Bidanda promises to “accelerate the initiatives in the (IISE) strategic plan” and make ISE the “engineering discipline of choice for high school seniors, especially since it has the broadest scope of all engineering fields and can be applied everywhere!” Bidanda is IISE’s 2013 winner of the Albert G. Holzman Distinguished Educator Award.

IISE Fellow Askin is a professor of industrial engineering and founding director of the School of Computing Informatics and Decision Systems Engineering at Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona. He received IISE’s Albert G. Holzman Distinguished Educator Award in 2017 and was editor-in-chief of IISE Transactions.

Shirwaiker is an associate professor at the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, North Carolina.

Vice presidents for the technical operations board and the regional operations board also were elected.

Vice presidents of technical operations are Bradley Kramer, Ph.D., Joe Wilck, Ph.D., PE, and Sreekanth Ramakrishnan, Ph.D. Kramer is a professor and department head, Ike and Letty Evans Engineering Chair and director of the Technology Development Institute at Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas. Wilck is the faculty director of Business Analytics Programs and Raymond A. Mason School of Business at William & Mary, Williamsburg, Virginia. Ramakrishnan is the senior technical staff member and program director of Client Experience and the coach of Enterprise Design Thinking at IBM Corp., San Jose, California.

Regional vice presidents are Lee Wells, Great Lakes; John O. Luan, Canada; and Rajiv Saxena, Mid-Atlantic.

New officers are elected by IISE professional members and serve for three years. Terms begin April 1.
