Editor-in-Chief, IISE Transactions

Nominations Deadline: Aug. 15, 2024

On behalf of the IISE Board of Trustees, this is a call for nominations for the position of editor-in-chief of IISE Transactions. This position is a four-year, non-renewable term beginning Jan. 1, 2025.

IISE Transactions is a refereed journal that publishes original, high-quality papers on a wide range of topics of interest to industrial and systems engineers. It publishes papers with a strong methodological focus motivated by real problems that impact engineering practice and research. The journal publishes research motivated by critical and complex engineering problems that arise in a wide variety of domains including manufacturing, service, public policy, healthcare, security, biotechnology, transportation, and others. Papers that develop emerging areas for industrial and systems engineers are particularly welcome. The journal also publishes papers that integrate industrial engineering with other disciplines including statistics, other engineering disciplines, computer science, biological science, and operations research. The journal is composed of the following four focused issues and is published monthly:

  • Design and Manufacturing
  • Operations Engineering and Analytics
  • Data Science, Quality, and Reliability
  • Supply Chain and Logistics

Editor-in-Chief Responsibilities

The editor-in-chief is responsible for ensuring the high quality and direction of IISE Transactions, selection of the focused issue editors and all editorial board appointments, oversight of the publication process of the journal, management of the IISE Transactions best papers awards, and enhancing the visibility, impact and prestige of IISE Transactions. Responsibilities include overall coordination and processing of submissions, reviews, and final copy for the journal's focused issues; tracking of manuscripts from final copy to publication; coordination and notification of the awardees for best papers in IISE Transactions each year; preparation and submission of the monthly "Executive Summaries" for the ISE magazine; and leading annual editorial board meetings.


The editor-in-chief will be assisted by focused issue editors, special-issue editors, and department editors. This is a voluntary position and a salary is not provided; however, the publisher provides a stipend to carry out editorial functions.

Editor-in-Chief Qualifications

Qualifications for the editor-in-chief of IISE Transactions include:

  • Professional membership in IISE;
  • A demonstrated interest in the broad topics covered by the focused areas;
  • A demonstrated record of research, scholarship and application in one or more of the topical areas covered by the journal;
  • Prior editorial experience, dedication and enthusiasm for IISE and its journals; and
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently manage the editorial process.

Along with a statement of vision and strategic goals for the journal, nominations should include a resume of individual qualifications with experience that includes industrial and systems engineering research and research administration. Self-nominations are encouraged. Nominations will be accepted until Aug. 15, 2024.
