Ergo Moneyball: Playing the Buy-in Game Differently
In 2002, the Oakland Athletics were the third lowest salaried team in major league baseball. They had one of the lowest payrolls in the league and general manager Billy Beane had a difficult task on his plate: Build a top-notch major league baseball team on a shoestring budget. What Beane did made history and changed baseball as we know it. The story was first made famous by the book (and movie) Moneyball: The Art of Winning An Unfair Game. It was a true story about how sometimes, in order to win, you have to learn to play the game differently. Studying the A's story and how Beane overcame these challenges can teach us some great lessons in how we can overcome some very common hurdles faced when developing corporate ergo programs and creating culture change.
The audience will learn how to overcome three of the biggest hurdles related to ergo programs: gaining management buy-in, creating successful results in producing teams and working with small budgets. Teaching ergonomists to think like business executives and sports recruiters will help all practitioners who lead or influence corporation-wide ergo programs.
