Bibliography
LAG. A delay in the response of a system or device.
LAMA-25. A multi-axis contouring processor with line, circle and arc capability for use with CNC machine tools.
LINEAR DISPLACEMENT TRANSDUCER. Commonly referred to as LVDT (Linear Variable Displacement Transformer). An electromechanical device which produces an electrical output proportional to the displacement of a separate moveable core.
LINEAR INTERPOLATION. Refers to a mode of machine tool contouring control which uses the information contained in a block to produce constant velocities proportional to the distance moved in two or more axes simultaneously.
LOAD. (1) The power consumed by a machine or circuit in performing its function. (2) A resistor or other impedance which can replace some circuit element. (3) To fill the internal storage of a computer with information obtained from auxiliary or external storage. (4) The process of reading the beginning of a program into virtual storage and making necessary adjustments and/or modifications to the program so that it may have control transferred to it for the purpose of execution. (5) To take information from auxiliary or external storage and place it into core storage.
LOGGER. (1) Colloquialism for recorder or printout device in a control system. (2) A type of instrument which automatically scans conditions such as pressure, temperature, and humidity and records (logs) the findings on a chart. (3) A device which automatically records physical processes and events, usually with respect to time.
LOGIC. (1) As regards microprocessor, logic is a mathematical treatment of formal logic using a set of symbols to represent quantities and relationships that can be translated into switching circuits or gates. Such gates are logical functions such as, AND, OR, NOT, and others. Each such gate is a switching circuit that has two states, on or off (open or closed). They make possible the application of binary numbers for solving problems. The basic logic functions electronically performed from gate circuits is the foundation of the often complex computing capability. (2) The science dealing with the criteria of formal principles of reasoning and thought. (3) The systematic scheme which defines the interactions of signals in the design of an automatic data processing system. (4) The basic principles and application of truth tables and interconnection between logical elements required for arithmetic computation in an automatic data processing system. Related to symbolic logic.
LTTP. A simplified parts programming language for 2 axis turning applications and part of the Manufacturing Software and Services TOOLPATH processor. LTTP is a subset language and may be interchanged with ADAPT and other features of the TOOLPATH processor in the same part program.
