ULTRASONIC. In acoustics, of or pertaining to frequencies above those that affect the human ear, i.e., more than 20,000 Hz.

UNBURDENING. A method of easing the human task in tracking by using computers to perform mathematical integrations; or, the mechanization of a system to reduce physical effort on the part of the operator.

UPTIME. That element of active time during which a system element is either alert, reacting, or performing.

USABILITY. A measure of the ease with which an individual can either operate, or learn how to operate, a system.

USABILITY TESTING. Empirical testing to measure the usability of a system.
