Inside IISE Journals

This month we highlight two articles from IISE Transactions. The first article studies how to improve the decision process and efficiency in responding to 911 calls. It addresses the challenges associated with emergency medical services systems by proposing a two-stage stochastic programming model to optimize ambulance redeployment and dispatching decisions simultaneously. It further demonstrates the effectiveness of the algorithm with real datasets. The second article studies how to conduct screening for diseases with consideration of nonhomogeneous populations and proposes a screening strategy that can be tailored to the specific risk profiles of the subject. The real data analysis shows that the proposed strategies are cheaper and more accurate than existing screening strategies. These articles will appear in the September 2018 issue (Volume 50, No. 9).
