Inside IISE Journals

This month we highlight two articles from IISE Transactions addressing operational planning issues for humanitarian logistics. The first article uses a mixed-integer program to aid evacuation planning for impending natural disasters. The model coordinates the assignment of evacuees to shelters and the delivery of supplies to those shelters. The second article considers a network of relief agencies and develops a method for determining how the system should optimally recycle the large quantity of packaging materials, such as cardboard, they receive. These articles will appear in the April 2017 issue (Volume 49, No. 4).
