Using gemba walks to support implementation of tiered huddle system at UNC Medical Center

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused major operational challenges and amplified existing relational gaps between leadership and front-line workers. The pandemic also has emphasized the need for active engagement of executive leaders in promotion of safety behaviors. Overall, we applaud any executive leaders who took the time to visit and genuinely support front-line healthcare workers during this pandemic. At the University of North Carolina Medical Center, we recognized this need and offered a formal and organized way to connect them.
