Disruption must spark long-term plans

A previous column identified six attributes that most world-class companies exhibited: strong leadership, customer focus, continuous improvement, team member empowerment, innovation and alignment based on a recognition and rewards process. Needless to say, many companies doing the right things were savaged by startups harnessing technology to disrupt their industries. How did management allow it to happen so fast?
