Automation is fickle, but optimization is forever

Yogi Berra is famous for saying "déjà vu all over again," and one joy of growing older is experiencing the irony of this redundant phrase. Education, politics and even engineering are not immune to recycling old ideas with new labels. Take factory automation as an example.
