Competing in an Amazon world

Competing with Amazon is more chal- lenging than ever, with the e-commerce giant recently revealing that it shelled out more than $800 million to make one-day shipping standard for Prime members. Amazon’s continued pursuit into private labels forces many brands to explore additional sales channels, with consumer-packaged goods manufac- turers like L’Oréal launching direct-to- consumer (D2C) sites and digitally na- tive D2C brands like Everlane opening brick-and-mortar stores.
