My case against competition
When it comes to using big data for predictive analysis purposes, I am as big a
fan as you will find. I am not that big of a fan when it comes to using big data to drive
competitiveness, especially within organizations. Of course, those who know me well also
know that I don’t like to keep score in pickup basketball games.

Successful disruptors tend to focus on mature products and services dominated by
a small group of suppliers. The top 20 percent account for 80 percent of the margin and
profit. Most companies invest heavily to protect their share of this lucrative market,
ignoring their less profitable customers, products and services, providing opportunity
to disruptive entrepreneurs.
