IISE Scholarships and Fellowships — FAQs

Do I only need ONE nomination even if I want to be considered for several scholarships?

Yes! Only one nomination is needed. The nomination form should be completed by an academic advisor, department head, or professor.

Can the nominator also write one of the letters of recommendation (LOR)?

Yes!

Can I use my SHS Scholarship application for other scholarships that have a later deadline, or do I need to submit separate applications?

Your single nomination packet will suffice for consideration for all scholarships. To qualify for the SHS Scholarship, you must submit your application packet by November 20. This application will be retained for subsequent evaluation, covering the other scholarships for which you have been nominated with a February 1 deadline.

Do I need an official transcript?

No! Unofficial transcripts are fine.

What information should the letters of recommendation include?

LORs should be from an academic advisor, professor, or employer with ISE expertise. The letters should describe the student's character, academic performance, and future ISE potential and not exceed 1 page. Some scholarships require a specific area of expertise, such as healthcare for the SHS Scholarship, or work measurement and methods engineering for the Marvin Mundel Memorial Scholarship. Please reach each scholarship description carefully to make sure the criteria is reflected in LORs.

The criteria says I must have a graduation date of May 2027 or later. I am completing my undergraduate degree in 2026, but plan to move on to my Master's or Ph.D. program. Am I eligible for IISE scholarships?

As long as you have already been accepted to a Master's or Ph.D. program and plan to complete that in spring 2027 or later, you are eligible for the IISE graduate level scholarships.

I am a freshman in college. Am I eligible for IISE scholarships?

No. You need at least 1 full year of college transcripts in order to be eligible.

How do I submit my application?

Once you are nominated, you will receive an email with a link to complete your application, upload your transcript (official or unofficial), and notify your 3 letter of reference writers.

When will the winners be decided?

Winners will be notified in late April.

Who should I reach out to if I have questions about the process?

Please contact Elizabeth Grimes at egrimes@iise.org for any questions you may have.
