UNIT STRESS. (See STRESS.)

UNITIZED TOOLING. A type of die in which the upper and lower members are incorporated into a self-contained unit, which is arranged in such a way that it holds the die members in alignment. This type of tooling includes continental, subpress, pushthrough, pancake, or short-run dies.

UPSETTING. (1) A metal working operation similar to forging. (2) The process of axial flow under axial compression of metal, as in forming heads on rivets by flattening the end of wire.
