LANCING. Slitting and forming a pocket-shaped opening in a part.

LEAF BRAKE. A press brake on which bending action is produced manually by a "leaf'' operated by two long handles, or by powered means. (Also called box and pan, or finger brake.)

LIGHTENING HOLE. A hole punched in a part to save weight.

LINE DIES. A sequence of stamping dies, all of which perform operations on a part with manual attendance. As an example, a part blanked out of coil stock may advance through a forming die, a piercing die, a trim die, and/or other dies.

LOAD, PRESS. Amount of force exerted in a given operation.
