ZIRCON. The mineral zircon silicate, ZrSiO4, a very high melting point acid refractory material used as a molding material in steel foundries.
ZIRCONIA ZrO2. An acid refractory up to 2,500°C (4,532°F) having good thermal shock resistance and low electrical resistivity.
ZIRCON SAND. A very refractory sand of unusual fineness, low thermal expansion and high thermal conductivity, exceedingly useful and efficient in foundry practice. It consists principally of zirconium silicate and is widely used for improving finish and preventing "burning-in'' of sand on the casting surface.
