JOINT. Vernacular term for articulation (q.v.) between two bones which may permit motion in one or more planes.  Joints may become the sites for work-induced trauma (see TENNIS ELBOW, etc.) or other disorders (e.g., arthritis).

JOINT REACTION FORCE. The internal reaction force acting at the contact  surfaces when a joint in the body is subjected to internal loads, external loads, or is moved.
