I am writing this on D-Day. Seventy years ago, Allied forces landed on the beaches of Normandy. By the end of that longest day, more than 4,000 Americans, British and Canadians had died. Many have relatives who were killed that day or during the larger Normandy campaign, which lasted several months and cost more than 400,000 Allied and German casualties.
