Erick Moreno-Centeno, Ph.D., from Texas A&M University is the recipient of the 2014 Award for Excellence in the Teaching of Operations Research (OR). Moreno-Centeno taught several OR classes in the last five years at Texas A&M University and the University of California, Berkeley. He was nominated by his department chair and his application was supported through letters from several students who took his classes. In his nomination letter, the department chair, César O. Malavé, Ph.D., writes, “He [Moreno-Centeno] is a favorite among the students; … he goes the extra mile to make sure the students understand complex mathematical concepts. ... He is extremely passionate about teaching, and the students just adore him, as he makes sure no one is left behind.”
Moreno-Centeno has been recognized for his excellence in teaching by receiving the 2013 Professor of the Year Award, the 2012 Montague-Center for Teaching Excellence Scholar, the 2008 Graduate Student Instructor of the Year Award, and the 2007 Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Award.
