Executive summaries of IIE Transactions and The Engineering Economist

Edited by Ronald Askin and John W. Fowler

This month we highlight two articles focusing on using industrial engineering methodology to improve public health. The first article discusses the development of a supply chain model to aid in the distribution of childhood vaccines in low- and middle-income countries. The second article develops a statistical approach to modeling healthcare data when many of the observations are “zero” due to low incidence rates. These articles will appear in the August 2014 issue of IIE Transactions (Volume 46, No. 8).
