Getting better with age 

At one point, I thought the attempt to introduce the waste of human potential as a sixth S was more of a moneymaking ploy than an attempt to enhance the original 5S practices that were part of the Toyota Production System. Don't get me wrong – I believe strongly that we need to do a much better job of using human potential at work. I had just become cynical because too many companies weren't even doing the first five S's correctly. Why add more complexity to the situation?
