President's message

Dear members:

The Annual Conference in Puerto Rico is mere days away, and I am certainly looking forward to it. As you may already know, the conference will be held from Sunday, May 19 to Wednesday, May 22. Our Construction Division has several interesting presentations lined up, and I am sending a special invitation to all Division members who attend the conference to make a point of turning out and packing the presentation room!  We need you to support our program by attending and participating. Be sure to bring a friend or colleague along with you!

The program is subdivided into two main headings: a) The Solutions Track, which presents papers that demonstrate applications of IE principles to practical situations in the industry setting; and b) the Research Track, which presents the latest concepts and cutting edge trends that influence the direction of the construction industry. The research sessions are a part of the ISERC program that includes research offerings across all areas of the IE spectrum.

The Solutions Track starts at approximately 8 a.m. Monday, May 20, pauses for the Keynote Address, and continues throughout the day. It ends with the 2013 Construction Town Hall Meeting, that runs from 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. The Construction Research sessions pick up from that point at about 5 p.m., then continue on Tuesday, May 21. Please see Laura Ikuma’s byline in this newsletter on the various sessions that will be featured.

I would like to thank George Gardner and Isa Nahmens for their great contribution as co-chairs of the Solutions Track. I would also like to say a special word of appreciation to Laura Ikuma and Brian Kleiner for continuing to assemble a great research track for yet another year. They have done us proud.

Some changes are in the works for the leadership team of the division – the details are not yet official. However, please be sure to participate in the Town Hall meeting. New opportunities for our members will be made available, and this will be an event not to be missed!

See you in Puerto Rico!

Lincoln Forbes, Ph.D., P.E.
